In brazing, a separate filler metal is introduced to join the parts, melting above the base metals but below their melting point and flowing into the joint by capillary action. This filler metal is typically supplied as rods or wires, so they’re commonly called brazing rods. Flux is used to clean oxides and help the flow, but it isn’t the filler metal. Welding rods are for fusion welding, where the metal actually melts and fuses with the base metal. Solder is a filler metal used in soldering at even lower temperatures, not brazing. So the term that fits the filler metals used in brazing is brazing rods.
